The amazing Taza of The Rockstar Diaries has asked her readers to list the little things that are bringing them happiness this week. As I've been down in the dumps lately for one reason or another, I thought this would be a good exercise for me...
My Happy Little Christmas List
1. Snow! It is snowing outside as we speak - big, beautiful snowflakes that keep accumulating. The weather channel says that we are even supposed to get snow Christmas Eve! I can't remember the last time we had a white Christmas. I can't wait to bundle up and play in the snow with The Boy and my sister. Speaking of The Boy...
2. Devin (aka The Boy). He has been so amazing and supportive this year. I am so grateful for his presence in my life. He keeps me grounded and sane when everything seems to be falling apart. This past Saturday he graduated from college. I am so proud of him! :D
3. Baking. Whenever I'm feeling stressed or angry, I bake. This Christmas has been particularly stressful because of all the family drama... This Christmas will be our first Christmas without my Grandma and it feels as though our family ties are simply disintegrating. No matter what we do we cannot hold everyone together. So, to deal with this stress and frustration, I bake. It puts me in a good mood and reminds me of my Grandma.
4. Alison Eve! When I met my best friend Alison four years ago, we started a tradition we like to call "Alison Eve" in which my family and I exchanged gifts with Alison. For the past three years, this lovely event has occurred on December 23 and has been a blast. It is one of my favorite moments of the holiday season and I hope it continues far far far into the future! :D
5. Christmas Movies. I love love love watching Christmas movies! My favorite is Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town:
6. Shopping for Gifts. I normally hate shopping, but there is just something about shopping for Christmas gifts that instantly puts me in a good mood. I love finding that perfect gift for that special someone and knowing that they're going to love it. I can't wait to see my family and friends open their gifts this year! I'm really excited :D
7. My Mom's Potato Soup. My Mom makes the best homemade potato soup. It is one of my favorite dishes and she only makes it once during the Christmas season. I could eat the entire pot all by myself.
8. No School! Although I graduate from college in the spring, I am totally ready to graduate now. This last semester was the most difficult and the most stressful...I'm so relieved that I finally have a break and can relax.
9. My Electric Blanket. Devin got me my blanket our first Christmas together. It has kept me warm on super cold nights ever since. I love it!
10. Spending Christmas Eve with Family and Friends. Every year, Devin and I alternate spending time with our families. This year we are going to mass with his family first and then eating dessert with my family later in the evening. I can't wait! :D
Sigh...I do feel better after compiling all my happy thoughts.
Merry Christmas! :D
